In the US state of Alabama, an airport worker has died after being “sucked” into the engine of a plane.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. Saturday at Montgomery Regional Airport after American Airlines Flight 3408 arrived from Dallas.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the ground crew member was “sucked into the engine” while the plane was parked at the gate, CBS News reported.

The worker, an employee of American Airlines’ regional subsidiary Piedmont Airlines, has not been named.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for American Airlines said: “We are appalled by the accident involving a team member of Piedmont Airlines, American Airlines’ regional carrier at Montgomery Regional Airport.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members.

“We’re focused on making sure everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time.”
