Boone, N.C. — Chase Bryce fired a 53-yard scoring drive to Kristen Horn in the final game of the game as Appalachia opened Saturday’s Sun Belt Conference Troy was defeated 32-28 in the battle.
Bryce put Appalachian State (2-1) on the field with 1:13 left, then threw an incomplete throw on the fourth and target from the 2-yard line.
Appalachian State tackled Gunnar Watson in Game 1 to secure a 28-26 run, and the Mountaineers took over at their own 47-yard line with 15 seconds left on the tee. Contest. Bryce’s game-winners were fourth and tenth.

Watson completed 23 of 37 passes for 302 yards and an interception for the Trojans. Troy rushed for just 57 yards on 28 carries.
