Dane & Co. Enterprises Honors Small Business Saturday

Denmark County, Wisconsin (WMTV) – For 13 years, communities across the country have celebrated small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Colin Murray, a small business owner and executive director of Dane Buy Local, said an appreciation for small local businesses is what makes Dane County so unique.

“When you hear some national publication say why it’s great to live in Madison and they list all the different reasons, it’s not because we have the biggest Walmart or the fancy Target, it’s all these individual local The business is what makes this place and what makes it special more than anywhere else,” Murray said.

He said every customer interaction is different.

“When you go into a local business, these are the things you’re going to go through when you walk in the door, you never know what’s going to happen, right?”

Carol Schroeder, co-owner of Orange Tree Imports, a Madison specialty store, said it’s not just the conversation with the shopper that’s personal, but the product as well.

“We know Madison, we know our customers, we know what customers want, we can reflect that, we can reflect the values of our community,” she said. “We have some Christmas decorations this year that you might not see anywhere else because we know these are things our customers will love and possibly express their Wisconsin soul in a special way.”

You might just be bringing home something you didn’t intend to take away!

“When you get here, you feel the joy of serendipity; finding something you didn’t know you wanted,” Schroeder said.
