Deion Sanders left Jackson, Mississippi hours after leading a team preparing for a press conference for his new gig at the University of Colorado.
Sanders was introduced as the head coach of the state’s flagship university, where his son Scheidel helped him win 22 games over the past two seasons at Jackson State. He nearly named him Colorado’s starting quarterback going forward.
“He’s going to have to earn it,” Sanders said.
One Sanders is evident from this fight. Shiloh Sanders, the middle child of Deion Sanders and starting free safety, did not travel to Colorado and did not play Saturday night.
“I left Jackson’s safety zone because he’s in the kennel now. That’s my other son (Shiloh).”
Shilo Sanders started his career in the SEC, earning consistent playing time for the University of South Carolina early in his career. When his dad came to Jackson State, so did his son — just like so many other former FBS/Power Five players.
The safety posted on his Instagram account Saturday asking if he should stay at Jackson State.
While his next move has yet to be revealed, it’s clear that Shedeur is heading west. In 12 games at Jackson State this season, he completed 314 of 448 pass attempts for 3,409 yards and 36 touchdowns.
As for Deion Sanders, he said he plans to coach Jackson State one more time before donning Colorado Nike gear again. As the SWAC winner, his team will face MEAC champion North Carolina Central on Dec. 12 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 17.
“If you knew I had work to do in Jackson, Mississippi,” Sanders said. “They told me we were ‘and-0,’ which means we didn’t lose to anyone. We have to win this championship,” he said. “But like I play baseball and football at the same time, I can multitask and focus.”
