It’s the culmination of six years of development, as the company seeks to develop portable iterations of its existing air-purifying technology.
A visor-like shield attached to the earphone cup sits over the user’s nose and mouth, drawing out filtered air to prevent exposure to air pollution.
Chief Engineer Jake Dyson said: “Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe while you’re on the road.
“And unlike a face mask, it uses a high-performance filter and two tiny air pumps to deliver a plume of fresh air without touching the face.”
What are the specs – when are they released?
Dyson says the headphones offer up to 50 hours of audio battery life, on par with the top of the range.
But if you also use an air purifier, that time takes a huge hit, dropping to about four hours.
If you turn it on, the company says the filtration system captures 99 percent of particle pollution and can be adjusted based on air quality using a smartphone app.
It was first tested in Beijing, the notoriously smoggy city, and the final product will be launched in China in January.
It’s coming to the UK, Ireland, US, Hong Kong and Singapore in March, priced at £749/$949.
