Small businesses are gearing up for their own Black Friday (Small Business Saturday), hoping that despite the high prices this holiday season, consumers will continue to shop locally.
American Express created Small Business Saturday in 2010 to bring more customers to local stores during the recession, and in 2022 some store owners have noticed that persistently high inflation has changed spending habits.

Inflation was at 7.7% for the 12 months ended October 2022, with data for November expected to be released on Dec. 12. 13. Inflation has fallen since peaking at 9.1% in June, the highest rate for Americans in decades.

Lighting ceremony and shopping – Shoppers can find food and entertainment as well as merchandise at a range of events at Saturday 50th and France.
minneapolis
Hollidays – From noon to 9pm on Saturdays, shoppers can support small businesses setting up in Loring Park.Those who stay late can see the fireworks at 7:15 p.m.
Unique Holiday Gifts – The Northrup King Building is hosting local creators and artists for Small Business Saturdays. People can shop in person on Saturdays from 10am to 6pm, and for more, visit the artist’s website.
new bookstore opens – Comma, a bookstore will open for the first time on Saturday from 10am to 6pm.
Small Business Saturday Market – Midtown Global Market will be working with more vendors after their Black Friday event on Saturday from 11am to 5pm.
Handmade Holiday Bash – More local makers and food at Bauhaus Brew Labs Saturday noon-5pm
NE Maker Market – Minneapolis’ Northeast community will feature 48 local businesses during the free event on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
artist affairs – The Solar Arts building is telling people to take a break from the mall on Saturdays from 11am to 6pm to support local artists.

Holiday Art Finds and Sales – MontiArts on West Broadway Street sells artwork by several local artists at an event held Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.

Local businesses reopen – Choo Choo Bob’s Train Store, which closed its store during the pandemic, will reopen on West End Avenue in St. Louis. Lewis Park. The store will open for the first time at the new location on Saturday.

european christmas markets – Friday marks the start of the first three-day weekend of Union Depot’s annual European Christmas Market. On Saturdays from 10am to 8pm, shoppers can shop, dine and choose from a variety of entertainment options.
