Jeremy Renner was knocked down while trying to stop a six-ton snowplow from hitting his nephew, a police report said.
The 52-year-old Marvel actor was using the PistenBully machine to help his nephew Alexander Fries out of the snow in his Ford pickup truck when the plow started rolling down the hill.
He broke more than 30 bones plowed under plow tracks on new year’s day Stop it from moving if he tries to get into the cab. Mr Rainer sustained injuries to his “torso, face, limbs and head”.
The actor’s nephew started “screaming for help” because he didn’t have a mobile phone.
Two neighbors then offered Mr Rainer towels and assistance until emergency services arrived at the scene near the Ross Mountain Highway near the U.S. border between Nevada and California.
A report from Washoe County Representative Garret Leone said he arrived at the scene of the accident and spoke to Mr. Fries – who was the only witness.
“They connected the rear of the PistenBully to the front of the Ford pickup with a chain. They pulled the pickup out of the driveway and Alexander parked in the middle of the street,” Mr Leon said.
“While running towards the truck, Alexander observed Jeremy jumping onto the PistenBully’s track and into the cab of the vehicle. Alexander said Jeremy was caught and eventually knocked over,” Mr Leon said.
With no handbrake on the plow – it was running on the track – it started rolling straight towards Mr. Fries.

Authorities said the vehicle had mechanical problems, but it is believed the plow would have stopped if Mr. Rainer had engaged the handbrake, NBC reported.
The star has shared many updates on his condition since the accident.In a selfie on Jan. 3, he described himself as Can’t type because it’s “too messy”.
In another, a picture of him being treated in a hospital bed was shared, He thanks fans for their support.
“I want to thank everyone for their messages and thoughtfulness towards me and my family…” he wrote.
“Love and thank you so much. These 30+ broken bones will heal and grow stronger, as will the love and bond with family and friends deepen. Love and blessings.”
