Mercer Music at Capricorn Hosts Music Business Summit

Award-winning producer Steve Ivey and Capricorn’s Mercer Music hope to shape Macon’s musical present and future.

Macon, Georgia — Macon has a rich musical history. Capricorn’s Mercer Music wanted to build Macon’s musical present while honoring the past.

They will be hosting their inaugural Music Business Summit in February.

Award-winning producer Steve Ivey is a Mercer alumnus who began his music career in Macon.

“We’re really excited to bring all of this to Macon and help the arts grow in Macon,” Ivey said.

During the one-day conference, Ivey and several other speakers.

At the summit, there will be talks with Grammy Award-winning songwriters, producers, managers and many other big names in the music industry.

Goal: To help Macon musicians improve their skills and advance their careers by learning from others.

Ivey says he has worked with many people in the music industry, and while they all have their own creative processes, what they all have in common is a great work ethic.

“They have this crazy work ethic of knowing how to survive and then thrive. That’s the key factor that a lot of young artists don’t understand, whether you’re Nobody or Bruno Mars, Busy Never Stops and Garth Brooks,” Ivey Say.

The summit will help creatives at all stages of their careers learn something new from those who have been in the industry for a long time.

These are the people Ivey says he works with regularly, all dedicated to helping artists grow in their passions and careers.

A variety of topics will be discussed, from writing and recording for TV and film, to developing performances, to some useful live sound technical tips.

Ivey said the event was really about connecting the music community. As a creative, he says, it can be difficult to get out and meet people who can help you grow.

He and Capricorn’s Mercer Music hope to bridge the gap.

“The Music Business Summit is a great event, not only to hear how it’s done, but to meet people who are doing it and get their email address and maybe they’ll give you their phone number. That’s what I bring part of everyone who came, and I’ve personally worked with every one of those people,” he said.

The Business of Music Summit will be held at Mercer Music in Capricorn on February 23rd from 9am-7pm. The event will feature live performances and networking opportunities at Mercer Music at the Phil Walden Memorial Studio in Capricorn.

Registration is $79 and you can register on the Mercer Music at Capricorn website.
