Thanks to the Wi-Fi 6 Release 2 standard, the new WAX220 wireless access point delivers high-speed … [+]
Networking giant Netgear has stepped up its efforts to gain market share in the fast-growing segment between consumer and enterprise networks. Today, the company announced the Netgear WAX220 Wi-Fi 6 access point. This dual-band device offers solid performance at an affordable price and is part of Netgear’s Business Essentials line of access points.
Aimed at small businesses, the WAX220 can deliver up to 4.2Gbps of total Wi-Fi throughput and includes a 2.5Gbps Power over Ethernet (PoE) port so access points can be placed even in areas without power.
Compatible with the latest Wi-Fi 6 smartphones, network-connected devices, and laptops, the WAX220 uses Wi-Fi 6 Release 2 technology, which uses wider channels on the 5GHz band to provide more wireless connectivity than previous-generation Wi-Fi 100% Throughput 6. Compared to Wi-Fi 5 access points, the WAX220 supports four times as many client devices, delivering faster speeds and less endpoint congestion.
The WAX220 features a smart industrial design and a front panel with status LEDs.
Doug Cheung is Netgear’s Director of SMB Wireless Product Line Management. “There are more than 30 million small businesses in the U.S. who need good Wi-Fi for their jobs and customers. Many are looking for cost-effective, easy-to-install, and high-performance Wi-Fi solutions to support their business operations,” he said. .The WAX220 delivers up to 4.2Gbps throughput and covers over 2,000 square feet per unit. It’s the fastest, widest-reaching access point available for less than $200.”
Setting up the WAX220 takes about 10 minutes and is perfect for any small business looking for better WIFI. Small businesses that rely on a single router to access the Internet may have no wireless capabilities, or at best minimal wireless coverage.
The WAX220 can connect to almost any router using an Ethernet cable and a standard 12V power adapter. Alternatively, the WAX220 can be connected via an Ethernet cable to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch behind the router, allowing greater location flexibility and delivering power and data over a single cable connection.
The Netgear WAX220 can be ceiling or wall mounted and can optionally be powered from a mains … [+]
Businesses can add multiple WAX220 units to expand their network over a wider area as a mesh system using the same network settings and passwords. Or, they can use unique SSIDs with separate passwords to cover different areas of the business with multiple independent Wi-Fi networks.
The WAX220 is compact and packs the latest in wireless technology into an aesthetically pleasing industrial design. Netgear claims it’s an ideal solution for the many business owners looking for an easy-to-setup Wi-Fi solution at a reasonable price.
Pricing and Availability: The Netgear WAX220 is available now for $199.99.
