AgTech Startup Hackathon starts Friday

The city of Escondido and Fresh Brewed Tech present an AgTech Startup Hackathon, bringing together farmers, technologists, community leaders, engineers and others to better understand agriculture and food system problems and build solutions. The hackathon runs from Friday through Oct. 23 at the Synergy CoWorking Centre, 140 N. Escondido Blvd. Come with an idea and learn how to advance it into a business; see the new potential Escondido AgTech Incubator; meet and collaborate with some of the area’s AgTech entrepreneurs, investors and industry leaders. Tickets are free for the Oct. 23 pitch competition, $15 for a social event from 3 to 5 pm Friday, and $99 for the full weekend hackathon. Workshop offered on romance editing

The San Diego Professional Editors Network holds a virtual workshop, “Breaking into Romance Editing: The Dos, Don’ts, and Everything in Between,” at 10 am Saturday. Brewery hosts event to help dog rescues

Second Chance Beer Company, based in Carmel Mountain, is hosting its third annual Murder Mystery Beer Pairing Dinner at 7 pm Oct. 27. Tickets are $60 and include four beer tastings, a three-course meal from Chef Joann Customized Catering, and the interactive murder mystery game. This year’s festivities are pirate-themed. SCORE offers training workshops

SCORE San Diego volunteers are experienced entrepreneurs, managers and executives from diverse industries and specialties, offering their help in small-business training workshops. For $25, clients receive a two- to three-hour workshop, either in person at SCORE San Diego, 8825 Aero Drive, Suite 102, San Diego, or on Zoom; a PDF of the presentation; and a link to the final workshop video.
