Somerville, Massachusetts –(Business Wire)–Petroleum Development Oman (“PDO”) recently contracted with Eden GeoPower Inc. (“Eden”), a Massachusetts-based geotechnical engineering firm, for their use of Electrical Reservoir Stimulation™ technology. The pilot project in Oman, which includes multiple wells, will be the first to use electrical current to stimulate the reservoir. Shaleem Petroleum Company (“Shaleem”), a leading Oman-owned community contracting company, will serve the project together with Eden.
“We are excited to advance Eden’s reservoir simulation technology and contribute to the advancement of clean and sustainable solutions that enable economical and innovative extraction of subsurface resources while reducing CO2 emissions2 said Majid Mahrooqi, PDO Corporate Planning Manager.
The pilot project will break ground later this year. In addition, the partnership with Eden can foster the development of an entire ecosystem around new sustainable and clean technologies, accelerate the trajectory towards net zero goals, and create new jobs in local markets. In the short term, it will support the immediate creation of new jobs during the stimulus period expected to take place this year.
“Oman Petroleum Development Corporation has put great effort into sustainable and efficient practices. We are excited to apply our reservoir stimulation technology to help drive these initiatives,” said Eden President and Co-Founder Ammar Alali. “As we collectively move toward more sustainable energy consumption, our goal is to support grid reliability, and our partnership with PDO reflects that.”
“Piloting our technology later this year is a huge milestone for our company and the world’s transition to a net zero economy,” said Paris Smalls, Eden CEO and co-founder. “Once our technology is successfully piloted, we will Will be commercialized in a range of industries where improved subsurface permeability is required. This includes increasing fracture networks in enhanced geothermal system reservoirs, increasing reactive surface area for in situ production, and opening new fluid flow paths to maximize CO2 Injectivity during geological storage. ”
