Plant City Horse Therapy business owner happy to finally get pole barn

Plant City, Fla. (WFLA) — After contacting Better Call Behnken, Plant City’s equine therapy business owner has finally received a pole barn.

Christina Dawson, owner of Horse Force in Plant City, uses horses as a mental health counselor during her treatment. It can be tough in the Florida heat, so she decided to install a pole barn.

She hired American Barn to build a 60 x 84 foot pole barn in March. She said she was still running around after paying more than half of the $16,000 deposit.

The American Barn is located in Old Town, Florida, about an hour west of Gainesville. Its website says they install barns in Florida and several other states. Dawson funded her project for a total of $33,680.

The contract stated a delivery time of 8 to 10 weeks, but there were delays. Dawson said she was promised delivery by July 4, then September. 12.

The company completed the pole barn after Better Call Behnken was involved three weeks ago.

“That means I can work almost 365 days a year,” Dawson said. “In Florida, because of the rain and heat, that really limited my ability to not burn that pole.”

When Better Call Behnken first contacted American Barn owner Harvey Jordan, he said he had always planned to build the barn. He blamed Covid and weather-related delays but promised to rectify it. And now, he did.

Now that she has a barn, Dawson said she plans to expand her business.

“That means, on the one hand, I can add a therapeutic riding program that a lot of people are asking about, especially for people with disabilities,” Dawson said.
