The Santa Barbara Unified School District has hired Tony Ramirez as its new chief technology officer and added a senior leader to its district cabinet.
Ramirez came to Santa Barbara after serving the same position in the West Covina Unified School District for more than four years, where he was named administrator of the year for the 2020-21 school year.
He also serves as the Director of Information Technology for the Glendora Unified School District and Foothill Christian School.
“I’m drawn to Santa Barbara Unified because of its wonderful and diverse community,” Ramirez said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve every student and teacher through the lens of technology, safety, security and innovation. .”
Ramirez holds two degrees from Azusa Pacific University, including a BS in Computer Information Systems and a MS in Information Technology.
“We are delighted that Mr. Ramirez has chosen to join us, especially at a time of such transformation in the region, especially in how we leverage technology in teaching, communication, and more,” said Dr. Hilda Maldonado, head of the area.
“Mr. Ramirez brings a wealth of knowledge to this position and an energy that I believe will help Santa Barbara Unified maintain an innovative spirit in everything we do.”
