Shreveport, La. (KSLA) – Black Friday is the day when big businesses offer deep discounts and many people take advantage of the shopping holiday. However, there are still deals to be found on Small Business Saturday!
Timeline Antiques, a small Shreveport-based business, is gearing up for the big day.
“We’re a 10,000-square-foot antiques and collectibles mall that specializes in Victorian to modern and everything in between,” says co-owner Brian Gray.
One of the most important aspects of a small business is building relationships with the community, he said.
“Small businesses are family-owned. You know their names, you know the kids’ birthdays, you know who goes to school with whom.”
After building close ties with clients, Gray says he sees better business from familiar faces.
“Every time you come in, no matter who you’re talking to here, you get this one-on-one connection, which translates into a warm, homely feeling. We have a lot of repeat business in the Shreveport-Bossier area, almost weekly will come to find new things that have been added.”
The money that goes into small businesses helps local economies thrive, Gray said.
“Most of the income you’re going to get from a small business goes directly back into the community. Whether it’s the local grocery store, the lawn service, the school uniform; this sense of community here means the money stays here.”
Regarding the long-term operation of the family business, he said that the only thing he should thank is the society.
“At any one time, three generations of our family are working here at the same time, and we could not have done it without the support of Shreveport-Bossier.”
