Evansville, Ind. (WFIE) – Evansville’s very own “Sauced” Italian restaurant is hosting a free Thanksgiving buffet.
Walton’s Smokehouse and Southern Kitchen is one of nine sponsoring businesses donating food.
Smokehouse manager Cassandra Davis said businesses in the area are helping each other as much as possible.
“I learned that the Arts District is a very tight-knit area, and any restaurant that can help, we’ll jump at the opportunity, whatever it is,” Davis said. “So, there aren’t many places in Evansville that will serve the community. do it, I think it’s great”
Walton’s Smokehouse will be donating cherry, apple and peach cobblers to the Thanksgiving event.
Smokehouse management said they chose to donate cobblers for the event because it can accommodate up to 70 people per pan and is quick to make.
Smokehouse kitchen manager Jeremy Moench said that inflation plays a large role in what their restaurant is able to donate to the event due to supply chain issues.
“There’s also been a definite shortage, and I don’t even think that’s going to be the case for Thanksgiving,” Moench said. “I know we’re trying to provide blackberry for the blackberry cobbler, but you just can’t get it, not at all.”
Inflation has made it difficult for restaurants to keep up with customer demand, Moench said.
The price of turkey has risen to nearly $5 a pound, but price isn’t the only problem restaurants are facing, he said.
“I might order two cases of turkey for a week, and you might get it that week, or you might not get it,” Moench said.
Walton’s Smokehouse management says inflation won’t stop them from giving back to the community.
The Thanksgiving event will be held at the “Sauced” Ballroom, 1113 Parrett Street, Evansville.
The event will be held on November 24th from 11am to 2pm.
