HONOLULU (KHON2) — It’s never too late to turn your passion into a career.

That’s what the Oahu native did when he was already partially retired.

While taking a leisurely walk on the beach, Tony Fallas had an idea.

“It started with our family, my daughter and son collecting seashells and glass, making things for our friends and family, we were asked to make things for other people, and we decided to start this little business,” Fallas said.

That was 12 years ago. What about business? Hawaii Beach Walk Gallery.

“I’ve always loved jewellery, unique jewellery, and I design all of these pieces that are unique to my company,” Fallas said.

Fallas used to work in the clothing business and dived several times a week.

“Usually after a big storm, and then early spring on the North Shore, people will be out collecting, looking for sea glass from shallow waters of 2 to 20 feet, shells anywhere from 10 to 30 feet,” Fallas said.

Fallas and his family made all their discoveries on the North Shore. There is even sand from the beach where it was found on the back of his piece. They are handmade and available at Haleiwa Store Lots. But the 73-year-old North Shore resident doesn’t really see it as work.

“I’m more excited about getting up every day and looking for something, running to the beach when it’s there, collecting shells and glass, I get inspired by finding something that’s really unique,” he said.

Fallas keeps energetic and healthy by walking, swimming and diving. He also has lots of spinach drinks and a positive attitude.

“It’s more like, how much fun can I have today?” Fallas asked.
