Buzz Aldrin announced he married his “longtime love” on his 93rd birthday, saying they were “as excited as elopement teenagers”.

The retired astronaut — the second man to walk on the moon — said he “tied the knot” with Dr. Anca Faur, reportedly 63, in a small ceremony in Los Angeles.

He tweeted: “On my 93rd birthday and on the day I, too, will receive an aviation legend, I am delighted to announce that I have tied the knot with my longtime love, Dr. Anca Faur.

“We joined the holy marriage in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles, and we were as excited as elopement teenagers.”

Aldrin shared two photos from the wedding, showing Dr. Fall in a sparkly gown and himself in a smart suit embellished with a medal and his Air Force badge.

He is best known for his participation in the Apollo 11 moon landing mission in 1969, when he was blasted to the lunar surface along with Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins.

Among the three world famous astronauts, Aldrin is the only one alive.

Aldrin retired from NASA in July 1971 and served as president of the Aerospace Research Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California, until his retirement from the Air Force in 1972.

He has since gone on to write nine books and create a think tank called the Human Spaceflight Institute, which will fully launch later this year.

According to LinkedIn, Dr. Faur is executive vice president of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC and holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Aldrin had been married three times before, but each time ended in divorce.

He has three children – James, Janice and Andrew – with his first wife, Joan Archer.
