Waco business owner deals with insurance nightmare after driver destroys her beauty spa

Waco, Texas (Tongzhou, Guangxi) – A Waco business owner is picking up the pieces again after a speeding car driver crashed into her spa on Christmas Eve.

When you drive by the R&M Beauty Style spa in Central Market, Texas, you see the wood-paneled walls.

Spa owner Maria Adams said she still can’t believe the accident was her reality. “It really broke my heart because I put all my soul into this business,” Adams said.

A piece of her heart is missing. “When they spin everything, it’s like a tornado,” she said.

Authorities said a driver failed to control the speed of the vehicle and slammed over the side of the Create A Cig store, then through R&A Beauty Style and into the wall of the Zales Outlet.

However, Adams said she bears most of the damage. “I looked at the camera and said, ‘Wow, everything is completely destroyed,'” recalls Adams.

Dust, debris and glass were everywhere, and seven years of hard work had been wasted by the owners.

“It’s like my baby, you know? You build it and it grows and grows and grows — and now it’s closed. It’s been really hard for me,” Adams said, adding that her business grew out of the accident. It has since been closed.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, but Adams said it could have been a close call.

“If she had come during the day, she could have killed us, 100 percent,” Adams said.

Now, she says she’s caught in an insurance nightmare.

“The store doesn’t have business loss insurance. It’s going to be difficult to come back,” Adams said.

She wants people to be careful when driving because the damage you can do is not just damage to buildings.

“Not only did she damage the spa, she damaged the interior like I did,” Adams said.

Waco police said they did not issue any citations and the driver was not charged.
