Women Business Collaborative’s New Female Corporate Technology Executives in America Report – Women occupy 24% of technology executive positions at Fortune 500 companies

Washington, November 15, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Women’s Business Partnership (WBC) released the first U.S. Women in Business Technology Executives Report In partnership with key sponsor Deloitte and 12 other firms, research on the role of women technology leaders in C-level executives across industries. At Fortune 500 companies, women hold 24% of Tech C-Suite positions and 8.7% of tech CEOs. The position with the highest percentage of women is chief information officer (CIO), of which 27% are women.

WBC analyzed executive leadership at more than 5,000 companies, specifically compiling data for 12 technology-focused C-Suite positions. These positions include Chief Information Officer; Chief Security Officer; Chief Information Security Officer; Chief Technology Officer; Chief Data Scientist; Chief Data Officer; Chief Data Analytics Officer; Chief Analytics Officer; Chief Data Science Officer; Chief Digital Officer; Chief Digital Information Officer and tech CEOs.

Women hold the most positions in the Fortune 500, S&P 500 and Russell 3000.Women’s advancement in private companies lags as women only make up 11.4% of private company tech C-Suite jobs, more than $1 billion in income.

It is critical for companies to have technology leaders and diversity leaders in the C-Suite, and to create pathways that help ensure equity in technology leadership. “This report is important because it is the first to analyze roles and information across 12 positions across industries to determine who is leading these key leadership positions and what the path to leadership is,” said Eddie Fraser, CEO, WBC. “We are excited to partner with major corporate sponsors, organizations committed to ensuring technologically diverse leadership, and leading academic institutions to prepare the next generation of leaders.”
